ANSYS CFD Enterprise includes all the best of ANSYS’ world-class computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software so experienced engineers and analysts. CHEMKIN-CFD is a plug-in chemistry solver that can be linked to other computational software packages, such as ANSYS’ FLUENT CFD software, to add accuracy, speed.
CHEMKIN is a tool for solving complex chemical problems. It is used worldwide in the, processing, [ ] and [ ] industries, and also in atmospheric science. It was originally developed at and is now developed by a US company,.
CHEMKIN solves thousands of reaction combinations to develop a comprehensive understanding of a particular process, which might involve multiple chemical species, concentration ranges, and gas temperatures. Chemical kinetics simulation software allows for a more time-efficient investigation of a potential new process compared to direct laboratory investigation [ ].
One important driver for the development and use of CHEMKIN is the reduction of pollutants, such as. As these pollutants become more tightly regulated through agreements by agencies such as the and the California Air Resource Board (CARB), researchers are making increasing use of technology [ ]. One limitation of CHEMKIN is that it assumes the reaction vessel has a relatively simple geometry [ ], whereas sometimes this is not the case.
For that reason, a related program called KINetics is often used in conjunction with tools. CFD programs are better able to account for geometric complexity, at the expense of being more limited in their treatment of the underlying chemistry of the reactive process being studied [ ]. Appendix B CHEMKIN Chemical Kinetics Software To provide insight into the role of various parameters and components of idealized combustion systems, software tools have been developed to simulate these systems. For example, models for premixed laminar flames started to appear in the 1960s at about the same time that research was revealing insights about chemical kinetic reaction mechanisms. Much of the new understanding about kinetics at the time was a result of the give-and-take between laminar premixed flame experiments and models. The initial laminar flame models were inefficient and difficult to use, until a group of researchers (experimental and theoretical chemists and applied mathematicians) at the Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California, developed a significantly better flame model. That group also developed models for other common, idealized zero-dimensional combustion problems, including the plug-flow reactor, the jet-stirred reactor, the constant-volume reactor, and the rapid-compression machine.
